Updates & Announcements
Interim Assistant Head of School

“Providence High School is my home, and these People of Providence are my family. I am honored to be able to step up and serve this community I love so much as Interim Assistant Head of School.” —Ms. Annie Matthews
Annie, a proud Providence alumna, has spent the last 15 of her 18 years in education as a member of the faculty at Providence High School. She began teaching in the English Department in 2007 and has served in the additional role of Technology Integration Specialist for the last 7 years. In the Spring of 2017, Annie also served as the Interim Principal when Mrs. Castro was on leave welcoming her second child. As Technology Integration Specialist, Annie’s leadership was instrumental in the success of our transition to full time remote learning, providing support to teachers as they pivoted to meet the needs of their students in unprecedented circumstances. In July of 2021, she stepped into the position of Dean of Instruction, responsible for supporting faculty as the lead instructional coach and overseeing teachers’ self-reflection and professional growth process. In all of Annie’s roles at Providence – student, alum, teacher, leader—she has been consistently faithful to the Mission of Providence and the aspiration of the Sisters that we respond to the signs of the times. She is also the parent of a Providence student in the Class of 2025. If anyone knows what it means to be a Pioneer, it is Ms. Matthews.
Dear Pioneers,
Providence High School is my home, and these People of Providence are my family. I am honored to be able to step up and serve this community I love so much as Interim Assistant Head of School.
Allison Castro has been a bold and caring leader, an esteemed colleague, and a good friend, and it is humbling to follow her. She leaves this school better than she found it and has taught me much about what it means to be an educator, a leader, and to continue the legacy of the Sisters and seek what they sought.
I am grateful to Mr. McLarty and the trust and faith he has shown in me with this appointment. I know that collaboration with the entire Leadership Team as well as the faculty and staff will be integral to my success in this position next year. This community has never failed to support me, and I do not intend to let them down. This is a challenge and an opportunity for me, and one I embrace completely.
I look forward to the search process as we seek a new Person of Providence for the permanent Assistant Head of School, aligned with our Mission, who will lead us forward with vision. I cannot wait to meet them, work beside them, and watch them fall in love with Providence High School.
I ask for your prayers and positive thoughts as I undertake this role, and we begin this important process, and I am excited to see what the next school year brings.
In Providence, as always,
Ms. Annie Matthews
Interim Assistant Head of School 2022-2023

Search Firm Consultants
To assist us with this work, we are engaging search consultants Adam Peichert and Doreen Oleson of Resource Group 175 (RG175). Our search firm consultants will visit campus in Spring 2022 to gain familarity with our school and hear directly from members of our community before announcing this opportunity to prospective applicants. Through RG175's vists, a position description will be created, which will outline the strengths of the school, the challenges we will face in the next decade, and the sort of person we are seeking to lead us forward. We hope that our announcement will attract a broad and diverse group of strong applicants who will share our understanding that Providence High School is an exceptional school that deserves an exceptional leader.
The Position Description along with information regarding the search process and an associated calendar will be provided following the formation of the search committee and RG175's visit to campus. Search Committee
Head of School, Scott McLarty, will form a Search Committee comprised of representatives from the Board of Regents, Leadership Team, faculty, staff, alumni, students, and parents/guardians. Search Committee members will be familiar with Providence High School's history, mission, distinctive character, and the current issues and opportunities of Catholic and independent school leadership. The Search Committee's first steps will be to create opportunities to hear from a broad range of Providence community members what they value most in a Providence education and what qualities the new Assistant Head of School should embody.
