Head of School Search

With great enthusiasm, the Providence High School Board of Regents and Providence St. Joseph Health announce the appointment of Scott McLarty as the new Head of School, effective July 1, 2019. To our delight the extensive national search surfaced a strong candidate pool. Taking into consideration the various aspects of private independent Catholic school administration, the Board, in consultation with the Search Committee, determined that Scott is the most qualified applicant for the position.

The Board of Regents thanks the Search Committee and Providence St. Joseph Health for all the time they dedicated to this important endeavor. We also thank the many other members of the Providence High School community - including faculty, administrators, students, parents, and alumnae - for providing your thoughtful feedback on the finalists. Your emails and survey comments reinforced the choice of Scott McLarty as the next Head of Providence High School.

As a community, we are indebted to Joe Sciuto for his leadership and dedication. In the coming months, we will celebrate his tenure and many accomplishments at Providence High School.

Sincerely,

Stuart Posin

Scott McLarty
“The world needs schools like Providence and its mission is as relevant today as it was at its founding in 1955. My time on campus allowed me to feel the warmth of the community, the energy and intellectual engagement of the students, the passion and professionalism of the faculty and staff, and the mission and charism of the Sisters of Providence. I could not be more excited to start my journey as a Pioneer and serve Providence High School as Head of School.” —Scott McLarty

Scott comes to PHS with sixteen years of experience in the field of Catholic education. He began his leadership career as president of the Saint Ignatius Teachers Association and continued as director of the Office for Peace and Justice at the Archdiocese of Chicago, and most recently was the head of Mercy High School in San Francisco. During his time at Mercy he secured the two largest single donations in the school’s history. Scott is reflective, thoughtful, articulate, warm, and engaging. He is excited to be Head of School at PHS as this is an opportunity to move into a school that already has a strong reputation and is operating from a position of strength. He appreciates working for sponsored schools as he has done throughout his career. These schools benefit from a clear identity and a shared language, stories, and histories—all of which is powerful in informing the life and work of the school.

In addition to the previously noted roles, Scott has served in many other school positions in his career. He has taught religious studies for grades 9-12. He has also been the Director of Admissions at Bellarmine College Preparatory and adjunct professor at DePaul University. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Hollywood School House.

Scott has impressive and broad academic credentials. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in English/Theol-ogy/Social Justice from Loyola University Chicago. He is currently working on his Ed.D. in Catholic Educational Leadership at the University of San Francisco.

Scott immerses himself in his community. While in San Francisco he was a board member and chair of Breathe California of the Bay Area. He was also co-chair of a project based learning (PBL) committee in San Jose. During his tenure in Santa Clara, he volunteered his time for the Pastoral Council at St. Clare Parish.
