Ms. Annie Matthews was born in the Bay Area and moved to Southern California when she transferred to Providence High School as a sophomore, graduating a proud Pioneer with the Class of 1993. She continued her Catholic education at Mount Saint Mary’s College for her undergraduate degree, and Pepperdine University for her graduate work.
Ms. Matthews has been teaching in the English Department at Providence since 2007, and served as the Technology Integration Specialist from 2014 until 2021. In July of 2021, Ms. Matthews stepped into the new role of Dean of Instruction. In the summer of 2020, Ms. Matthews was recognized as an Outstanding Pandemic Teacher by CSUN Michael D. Eisner College of Education. Her husband, Todd, is a chef, and they have three beautiful children: Dakin, Elizabeth, and Juliet. Ms. Matthews is a lifelong learner, an easy laugher (and crier), and an avid fan of Shakespeare, Douglas Adams, Bugs Bunny, Mystery Science Theatre 3000, and breakfast burritos. She enjoys video games, crossword puzzles, and fantasy novels, and believes deeply in the power of patience and kindness.
