PHS Pioneer Mascot Search: Meet the Final 3!

PHS Pioneer Mascot Search: Meet the Final 3!

Dear Providence High School Community,

Thank you to everyone who has voted in the last two rounds. It’s time to vote for your favorite from the top 3 mascot contenders. Voting closes on February 2. We are now one step closer to revealing the new mascot to represent the Providence Pioneers!

Selecting the Final 3
In Round 2, 541 community members cast their vote and selected their favorite 4 of the 12 contenders. Quickly, several strong contenders for our Pioneer Mascot emerged. Last week, our Pioneer Mascot Search Committee reviewed the Top 12 selections and narrowed them down to the Top 3 based on vote totals, the rationale behind each submission, and committee discussion. Listed alphabetically below are the top six animals that made it to our final committee conversations before being narrowed to the three options you’ll see in this week’s Round 3 voting.

Mythbusting the Confusion!

We’ve heard some questions about the difference between our team name and mascot, so here are a few quick clarifications. The more you can help us provide clarity, the better the voting quality we’ll get from our community!

Why are we searching for a new mascot?
In this point in time, Providence High School does not have an official mascot. While our team name is and will remain the Pioneers, we are seeking new ways to inspire school spirit across campus.

Isn’t “Pioneer” already our mascot?
While the Pioneer identity remains central to our tradition, Providence does not have a visual representation of our team—what’s known as a mascot.

Past imagery, such as covered wagons and western themes, no longer reflects our community today. Our goal is to create a mascot that inspires school spirit and reflects today's values.

Will we still be called the Pioneers?
Yes! No matter what mascot design is chosen, our team nickname will always be the Providence Pioneers. Once a Pioneer, always a Pioneer! The mascot is a visual representation to enhance school spirit—not a change to our name or identity.

Are there other schools or teams that do this?
Absolutely! Many organizations keep their team nickname while using a different mascot. This approach allows creativity while preserving tradition. Visit our website for a whole list of schools and professional teams that do this.
