Winter Athletics Recap #2

Wrestling
This year is the inaugural year of wrestling for Providence High School. The team entered two meets and made great showing at both. Under the tutelage of Coach Ho-Lopez, the team of 14 athletes had 3 athletes make the podium throughout the course of the season. Blake Sarkisian took first place 1st first place at the Arroyo last chance, while Marcello Maurio took 6th. Ava Martinez placed on the podium with a 3rd place finish. We look forward to next, and congrats to all the athletes that helped get the program started.

Boys Basketball
Providence put together a strong 2025–26 campaign featuring big winning streaks, key league victories, and competitive tournament play. The team earned a 20–7 overall record and went 9–2 in league, placing 2nd in the Liberty League.

They also frequently appeared in the Los Angeles Metro Top 25, ranking #22 as of Feb. 9, 2026.

The boys’ varsity basketball team really showed major growth with a team lead by 7 seniors. Providence rattled off multiple multi‑game winning streaks, including six straight wins in January. Signature wins include Buckley (62–57), Oakwood —(71–56), de Toledo (64–37), Northridge Academy (80–38), Milken (W 66–55). Even with tough losses against Heritage Christian and Oakwood the looks ready for their first-round challenge again Mater Dei Catholic in Santa Ana. Finishing the season ranked in the top 100 of Southern California, and top 200 in the state.

One of the best seasons in recent history, and we wish them luck in their post season run.

Girls Basketball
Providence Girls Basketball posted a competitive season featuring strong wins, tough losses, and steady improvement. At the end of the season the team ranked, #961 in California (up 16 spots), number 348 in the Southern Section. Key wins Le Lycee (38–20), Grace  (44–22), Buckley (71–30). Over the season we saw improved team cohesion, defensive consistency and more efficient scoring in January and early February. Congrats to our girls basketball team for a solid season.

Girls Soccer
Providence girls’ soccer finished the 2025–26 winter season with an overall record of 5–11 and 4–5 in league, placing 4th in the Independence League. The team scored 45 goals and conceded 48, showing competitive stretches despite a challenging schedule. Providence delivered several decisive victories against YULA (15–0), Hoover ( 3–1), ISLA (7–1), YULA (11–0) , ISLA  ( 7–0).  

Individual Standouts include, Olivia Sacchetto (Jr.) with 12 goals, 0.8 G/G, Mikaylah Malong (Jr.) with 0.2 A/G, Llew Doherty (Sr.) with 10.4 saves/game

The Providence Girls Soccer team showed resilience throughout the 2025–26 winter season. While the overall record reflects a rebuilding year, the squad demonstrated, strong offensive explosiveness in several high‑scoring wins, and Defensive grit from standout goalkeeper Llew Doherty.

Boys Soccer
Providence’s winter soccer squad showed resilience throughout the season, playing tight matches and finishing strong with back‑to‑back wins. Their performances included competitive league results, close scorelines, and several standout individual efforts.

Ranking of #391 in Southern Section, 77 in Division 7, and ranked #88 in Los Angeles. Kei wins include YULA  (4–2), International School of Los Angeles (5–4), and Le Lycee.

Providence surged to end the season with consecutive wins, including a dramatic 5–4 home win against LILA to cement their spot into the CIF post season. The team consistently competed in one‑score matches, demonstrating growth and potential.

They will play their first post season match in several years against Lucerne Valley.
