Mass for Healthcare Professionals: October Monthly Recap
The LA Archdiocese celebrated a beautiful Mass on Sunday, October 22 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles. Some of our Medical Program students attended the mass and represented Providence High School.
Dr. Arjan Harjani wrote a brief reflection about the experience:
"The Most Reverend Jose H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles was the principal celebrant. The liturgy was to thank and celebrate the ministry of health care and all those involved. He thanked God for his goodness, and for all the comfort and tenderness that has been shown in Jesus' name, to the sick and suffering by those who serve in health care- doctors, nurses, chaplains, administrators, and all who give of themselves so that the love of Christ might be shown to the sick. A wonderful reception followed the final event- the recognition of Dignity Health Sr. Mary Medical Center as 2023 Recipient of the "Health Care Ministry Excellence Award" and Dr. Mary Cathleen Schanzer of the Mission Doctors Association for "2023 Catholic Doctor of the Year" for her dedication, faith, and service throughout her career with amazing work in the midst of personal and external challenges In Serabu, Sierra Leone- a year-round open eye clinic that also takes care of medicines, diagnostic examinations, eyeglasses, and modern eye surgery free of charge to all patients. Thank you to the students in the Medical Program that attended the Mass with me and thank you to the parents that drove them to and from the Cathedral. God Bless. What and experience! Wow! Their representation as ambassadors of the high school and the Providence Health System was publicly acknowledged and recognized by the announcement and also our assigned seating in the front two pews of the Cathedral. Congratulations Students! We are very proud of you."
