Medical Focus Program Coordinator

Mrs. Sona Ashjian’s passion for education and the medical field brought her to Providence High School in 2004, as the Medical Focus Program Coordinator. Since then, she has been coordinating all PHS blood drives with St. Joseph Medical Center, along with UCLA and Huntington Memorial Hospital. She also oversees Medical Focus students’ volunteer hours, arranges hospital visits and field trips, and works along with the program director.
Prior to arriving at Providence, Mrs. Ashjian worked as a Medical Technologist for several years at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center where she spent 20 years managing and overseeing day-to-day operations at Dr. Gasparian’s Medical Clinic.
Mrs. Ashjian is involved in several medical and science based charitable organizations in her community, including the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry, which recruits and identifies bone marrow donors from around the world to help save those suffering from leukemia and other life-threatening blood related illnesses.
Mrs. Ashjian was born in Yerevan, Armenia. She immigrated with her parents and siblings to the United States in 1969. She attended Le Conte Jr. High School and Hollywood High School in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Ashjian is married and has two children who graduated from PHS. Her daughter Christina (class of 2003) received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UOP and is working at Providence Holy Cross as a Clinical Pharmacist. Her son Michael (class of 2007) received his Juris Doctor Degree from Southwestern Law School and works as an Entertainment Attorney.
In her spare time Mrs. Ashjian likes to read (belongs to Areen Book Club), needlepoint and travel with her family.
