Assistant Head of School
M.A. Teaching, University of Southern California
B.A. English, Whittier College
Mrs. Allison Castro ‘02 was born in Glendale, California. She attended St. Finbar Parish School for grades 1 through 8. She was then proud to attend our very own Providence High School. It was at Providence that Mrs. Castro was involved in the Media Focus Program (now named Cinema Arts Focus Program) and the Cheerleading team. It was also at Providence that she met her now husband, Greg Castro ‘02. They welcomed their son, Jordan ‘31, in 2013, and later in 2017 their daughter, Gianna ‘35 (Gigi), who will one day be Pioneers themselves!
Mrs. Castro always knew that education would be in her future. After graduating from Providence, Mrs. Castro went on to earn her B.A. in English from Whittier College and her M.A. in Teaching from the University of Southern California, where she also earned her Teaching Credential in English. After a brief teaching experience in a public school, Mrs. Castro felt passionate about returning to Catholic education. In 2008, Mrs. Castro returned to Providence to teach 9th Grade English. She then went on to St. Genevieve High School to continue teaching, where, in 2012, she became the Vice Principal of Academics. Mrs. Castro has also worked as an online adjunct faculty member for Ashford University working with teachers in their undergraduate work.
In 2014, Mrs. Castro felt called to rejoin the Providence community as Principal, now Assistant Head of School. The opportunity to serve in this meaningful leadership capacity is a real gift for Mrs. Castro, and she feels grateful that she has made her way back home. In her spare time, she enjoys roller-skating, reading, traveling and has recently taken up running. She continues to be inspired by the mission of Providence High School to serve the poor and vulnerable and respond to the signs of the times as we are all called through the vision of the Sisters of Providence.
