eñora Mayra Pelaez, a native Spanish speaker, was born and raised in Guatemala, where she lived half of her life. After immigrating to the United States in the late 1980s, Sra. Pelaez moved to Cleveland, Ohio, without speaking a word of English. One of her dreams was to learn a second language, so she decided to take English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. After learning English, Sra. Pelaez thought about pursuing a career in teaching. While in Cleveland, Sra. Pelaez began teaching for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and there she found a new passion in life---working with young students.

After getting married and having twin daughters, Sra. Pelaez decided to go back to school. Sra. Pelaez graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a minor in Dramatic Arts. Her teacher credentials are in Foreign Language Spanish and in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). She later earned a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. Sra. Pelaez has experience working with K-12 ESL students and teaching all levels of Spanish.

This is Sra. Pelaez’s sixth year at Providence, and she is very excited to be teaching Spanish I, Spanish II, and Spanish II Honors this school year. In addition, this year, Sra. Pelaez is proud to be the Senior class Moderator. In her free time, Sra. Pelaez loves to travel and spend time with her daughters who keep her busy. Sra. Pelaez also loves fitness, shopping, and watching "Hospital Playlist," "Grey's Anatomy," and lots more K-dramas (the best shows to binge-watch).
