B.A. Communications and Television Production
Mrs. Christen Harty Schaefer is a California native who discovered her passion for producing and directing in the TV studio at Pepperdine University. After earning her BA in Communications and Television Production, she never looked back. Today, Mrs. Schaefer is a two-time Emmy-nominated producer, director, and writer who brings over 30 years of experience in the film and television industry, having worked with a number of Hollywood’s elite and a myriad of networks including CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, Discovery Channel and HGTV. For six years Mrs. Schaefer collaborated with Steven Spielberg, DreamWorks, HBO and The History Channel to create over 25 specials and documentaries highlighting such critically acclaimed films as Saving Private Ryan, Amistad, and Catch Me If You Can, among others. She had the honor of writing and directing three award-winning documentaries with Band of Brothers author, Stephen Ambrose, on the personal stories from the men and women of WWII. As the VP of Development for New Wave Entertainment, Mrs. Schaefer helped create, produce and package over 150 hours of content for Lifetime, Biography and A&E, as well as the ABC Network Special, Signs of Fear, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. At Pie Town Productions, as VP of Development, Mrs. Schaefer cultivated and sold a number of series, from family docu-soaps to real estate docu-soaps to crime series, for networks such as A&E, ION and Oprah Winfrey’s OWN.
Mrs. Schaefer also brought Providence High School students and the Non-profit Foundation, Operation Kids, together, producing, writing and directing the teen pilot Shoot From The Heart, following our young filmmakers working to make positive change. She attends The MFA Dramatic Writing Distance Program at the University of Idaho and is a 20-year member of the Directors Guild of America.
Mrs. Schaefer and her husband, who is the Director of Photography on the Warner Bros. Entertainment series EXTRA, split their free time between creating family film productions with their son, a graduate of the Providence Cinema Arts Focus Program who is currently a CSUN Film Student, and supporting their daughter’s busy athletic career competing on an Elite-level Soccer Club.
