Caren Gitlin

Learning Specialist

M.Ed., University of California, Los Angeles
Fellow of Association of Educational Therapy
Board Certified Educational Therapist, Association of Educational Therapy Certificate in Educational Therapy, University of California, Los Angeles

Ms. Caren Gitlin was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She is a true Bruin at heart, having received her Bachelor of Arts Degree, Teaching Credential, Master’s Degree in Education, and Certificate in Educational Therapy all from UCLA. Knowing that she wanted to be a teacher since she was a little girl, Caren’s entire work experience has revolved around teaching, first in the classroom and then working as a Learning Specialist. In addition to being the Learning Specialist at Providence High School, Caren maintains a private practice in Educational Therapy.

Ms. Gitlin will be working part-time in coordination with Mrs. Andrea Rasmussen to offer targeted support to students with individual needs. She will also work with the Dean of Instruction to design professional development opportunities for Providence faculty to improve learning outcomes for all students through a richer understanding of effective instructional strategies to reach diverse learners.

Caren has one daughter who lives nearby with her husband and family and a son who lives in New York with his wife. Outside of work, Caren adores being part of her grandchildren’s lives and spends her leisure time solving Sudoku puzzles, reading, and completing jigsaw puzzles. Her creative juices get sparked by crafting, particularly when designing and making greeting cards for the special people in her life. She hopes one day soon to rekindle the traveling bug that she enjoyed as a young person.

As a new member of the Providence community, Caren is excited to positively impact the lives of students by assisting them to become successful self-advocates, to set and reach goals, and to simply become the best version of themselves as they explore the world around them.
