Student Life

Associated Student Body

The Associated Student Body (ASB) plays an integral part in the students’ high school experience. Providing an opportunity to develop the student’s social abilities through school-centered activities, ASB advances school spirit and identity, not only in extracurricular events but also within the Burbank Community. Providence High School prides itself on the ability to create a safe environment in which students dare to step outside their comfort zones and grow as people whilst making everlasting memories; ASB greatly contributes to ensuring this.

Besides spirit-building, ASB goals include community-building and promoting school pride. ASB also assists the Advancement Department, Admissions Department, and Administration by working at events such as Open House, Back to School Night, Providence in Action, and Freshman Luau. Service to the school community is the underlying foundation and motivation for these activities.

ASB consists of 11 executive ASB Offices and 12 Class Officers. The Constitution of the Associated Student Body defines the roles and responsibilities of the officers. Positions within the Executive Council include the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Sergeant at Arms, and Historian as well as the Special Interest Commissioners which include the Publicity, Sports, Visual/Performing Arts, and the Religious Commissioners.

Every academic class has three officers: the Class President, Vice-President, and Secretary-Treasurer. Acting as a student leader aids the officers in the development of leadership roles and abilities, organizational skills and project management.

The ASB functions under the direction and guidance of the ASB Moderator, Mr. Michael Senna. As a group, ASB goes to leadership camp twice during the year during August and January. During camp, the Student Council Advisor works with the ASB President and Vice-President to plan and present workshop sessions which include goal-setting, leadership skills, calendar planning and learning to bond together as a team.

The ASB President and Vice-President attend a three-day state-wide leadership camp run by the California Association of Directors of Activities (CADA) in the summer preceding the year they hold office.
